To us, it's simple – shoes should be designed with the essentials in mind. They must align with the foot's natural structure while allowing your feet to move freely, as if you're not wearing shoes at all.
In 2008, Lems' founder, Andrew Rademacher, reached a breaking point in his search for shoes that respected the foot’s natural form. After dissecting his favorite running shoes and removing excess material, Andrew decided to learn the craft and science of shoemaking on his own terms. He immersed himself in the study of shoe fitting, last construction, and pattern making to create shoes that fit unlike any others on the market.
Andrew quickly realized that the major shoe brands had missed the mark. Shoes should be designed around the natural shape of the foot, not the other way around. This meant that shoes should be widest at the toes and forefoot, offering maximum flexibility and freedom of movement.
After three years of research, countless hours spent on design, and many prototypes, Andrew’s persistence finally paid off. In September 2011, Lems launched its first product – the Primal. While the company has evolved since that initial design, Andrew continues to refine his craft while staying dedicated to his mission of creating footwear that fits naturally, allowing your feet to move as nature intended.
"If you can't find it on the market and no one's doing it, then you have to do it yourself." - Andrew Rademacher
